aiEDU Receives $2 Million Unrestricted Grant from Ballmer Group

November 15, 2023 — The AI Education Project (aiEDU) — a leading nonprofit dedicated to creating equitable AI learning experiences that excite and empower students everywhere with AI literacy — today announced a generous $2 million unrestricted grant from Ballmer Group

Known for its commitment to improving economic mobility for children and families across the United States, Ballmer Group’s strategic focus on reducing systemic inequities aligns well with aiEDU’s mission. This grant will allow the organization to scale its work, enabling new opportunities for teachers and students of all backgrounds across the country and transforming the education system for the better.

“aiEDU is uniquely positioned to build foundational AI literacy at a time when knowledge about AI and technology is not only desired, but is absolutely critical,” said Kevin Bromer, Executive Director of Technology and Data Strategy at Ballmer Group. “We couldn’t be more proud to support the work of aiEDU in their mission to support teachers, learners, and communities across the United States to ensure all can benefit from the rapid digitization of our economy and society.”

Unlike traditional approaches that limit AI education to computer science and technology classes, aiEDU connects AI to core subjects and positions AI literacy as an integral part of every student's education. The organization empowers educators, schools and districts with simple and accessible learning resources that help students develop the skills to understand, use and critically evaluate AI in all aspects of their lives.

“In today's rapidly changing economy, AI literacy is a critical tool for driving economic mobility,” said Alex Kotran, co-founder and CEO of aiEDU. “This funding from Ballmer Group will allow aiEDU to provide all students, and especially those who are disproportionately impacted by AI systems, with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.”
