AI readiness takes center stage at World Summit AI
MONTREAL — aiEDU’s Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel Loni Mahanta spoke at the World Summit AI this week highlighting the importance of AI readiness and discussing the transformative impact of AI in K12 education.
Mahanta spoke on a panel focused on how AI is redefining AI education and was joined by Nadia Naffi, Monika Lionaite, Kevin J. Jones, and Colleen Lyons. They looked at challenges and opportunities in building AI literacy and AI readiness across different communities.
Mahanta highlighted that AI readiness isn’t just about adding new technologies in the classroom — but building a foundation of critical thinking, adaptability and ethical judgement. She said that while technical training is important, it’s less fundamental than understanding individuals’ human advantages in a world where AI everywhere.
Mahanta focused on three key themes:
Redefining AI literacy and AI readiness beyond just knowing how to use new technology
Building ownership and a shared sense of development between educators and students
Ensuring access for everyone — and addressing access disparities that could widen existing educational gaps.
"Teachers and students must be co-creators in this work — not just users of pre-built solutions," Mahanta said.
Panelists expressed particular concern about connectivity barriers that could prevent communities from benefiting from AI advancements.
"We can't unlock AI's potential without real access. Without connectivity, entire communities risk being left behind," Mahanta cautioned.
