Northeast Ohio Educators Lead the Way in Mansfield
MANSFIELD — aiEDU: The AI Education Project continued its series of summits in Ohio this month with a gathering in northeast Ohio that brought together educators, administrators, and technologists.
The summit — co-hosted by the Mid-Ohio ESC — continued to build momentum around AI readiness in K–12 education. Speakers included, Kevin Kimmel, superintendent, Mid-Ohio ESC, Craig Burford, OESCA’s executive director and Chris Woolard, the Chief Integration Officer for the Ohio Department of Education.
Keynote speaker Winston Roberts, AI Innovation Lead at Foundation Academies and founder of Teacher in a Suit, encouraged educators to look beyond just "using AI tools" and start thinking about transformational change in how we prepare students for the future.
Throughout the day, breakout sessions showcased inspiring work happening across Ohio. Other speakers and sessions included:
Gabby Herlocher and Ethan Knotts, who spotlighted student-led AI projects like Jumper and Flash.
Dr. Vicki Turner (Berea City Schools) shared practical ways to demystify AI in classrooms.
Eric Curts (SPARCC) demoed top tools like ChatGPT, MagicSchool, and Khanmigo.
Kalin Wilburn (Mid-Ohio ESC) offered guidance on building deeper learning with AI.
Amberly Evans and Jay Stansell from Find Your Grind explored how schools can help students build future-ready, workforce-aligned skills.
Candice Sears (Montgomery County ESC) showcased AI-powered progress monitoring.
A mid-day keynote panel featuring John Gamba, Will Krasnow, and Jason Green tackled how AI can support teacher coaching and growth.
The summit wrapped with reflections, a student challenge, and a clear takeaway: Northeast Ohio isn’t just joining the AI conversation—they’re leading it.
