From Learning to Application: Spring 2025 Professional Learning Takeaways

The AI Education Project (aiEDU) just wrapped a great Spring 2025 professional learning season, from February through May. More than 300 educators across the globe joined our sessions, which included teacher panels delving into timely topics about AI in education.

Here’s a quick wrap up on a great slate of sessions:

In our first session, AI and Academic Integrity: Moving Beyond the Binary of Cheating, we discussed how to think differently about cheating and rethinking assignments in the age of AI. We also shared an approach to designing meaningful assignments that can leverage AI as a tool—not just a shortcut.

As one teacher shared: “I loved experiencing the difference between prompts and then crafting a better prompt of my own. It revealed both the student's struggles in learning better and the teacher's efforts to address the student's concerns.”

The next topic was AI Tools: Is This the Right Tool for My Needs? This was one of our most practical sessions yet!. Using aiEDU’s “5Ps” (Purpose, Privacy, Practicality, Price, Performance), educators learned how to thoughtfully evaluate AI tools instead of being swept up in the hype.

In this session, we explored ChatGPT for multilingual support, worked through live tool evaluations, and shared insights across classrooms and contexts. It was thoughtful, strategic, and a little bit fun too! A key takeaway one participant named was: “I need to be systematic when trying new tools—not just rely on some influencer's suggestions.”

In our third session, Deepfakes: Getting to the Truth of It All, we dove into how deepfakes—altered videos, images, and audio—are showing up in the digital spaces our students navigate every day. Through real examples and hands-on strategies (The R.E.A.L. Approach), we shared tools to help students spot AI-generated material and think critically about the digital content they see.

One participant said, “I love the R.E.A.L. approach! It's so concrete and would be so easy for teachers to use. I can't wait to share it with colleagues.”

Our last session for spring was Academic Integrity: Let’s Be Honest About It. In this inspiring teacher panel, powerful ideas and honest stories were shared about what it looks like to foster integrity, trust, and authentic learning with Gen AI.
